The Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 pandemic is expected to present its updated report on the national response efforts to President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday morning.
Nigeria COVID-19 task force is expected to present its assessment of the level of compliance by Nigerians to the regulations and guidelines; as well as give him recommendations for the next stage of the national response.
The Chairman of the taskforce, Mr Boss Mustapha, explained the imminent ending of the second phase of the eased lockdown, which took off from June 1,
He also said the PTF would be approaching President Muhammadu Buhari to submit its assessment of the success; or otherwise of the national response efforts as well as giving him their recommendations.
He urged Nigerians to await the next step in the fight against the virus.
Nigerians had been clamouring for the reopening of activities and total removal of restrictions and lockdowns; especially with respect to schools and interstate travel.
Meanwhile, the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja on Saturday, June 27, re-opened for business with the observance of safety protocols; following the Coronavirus (COVID-19), pandemic.
The airport also complied with strict COVID-19 safety measures, aimed at curtailing the spread of the virus.
It was reported that provisions were made for hand wash and alcohol-based sanitizers. There were temperature checks; as well as strict compliance to the social distancing order of about one metre.
Journalists covering the Presidential Taskforce on COVID-19 were led on a dry run test from Lagos to Abuja, to witness firsthand, reopening of the aviation sector.
The seats, which were usually crowded, have been rearranged in compliance with the social distancing rule.
Also, instructions to further guide passengers, such as “do not use this seat”, “keep your distance”; were placed on the seats.
Two newly acquired machines for identifying passengers were also showcased.
Two newly acquired robots with the name ‘Cruzr’ were positioned to screen passengers at the airport for identification of the passengers.
