Nigeria Records 595 New Cases Of COVID-19 As Ondo, Abia Record Increase

Nigeria has on Thursday July 16, recorded 595 new cases of covid-19 in the country, as reported by the the National Centre for Disease Control, NCDC.

The NCDC made the update on it’s social media handles, as part of it’s daily covid-19 situation report update. The country now has 34,854 cases recorded till date, with 14,292 cases discharged and 769 deaths.

Lagos State had the highest number of infections today with 156 new cases confirmed in the state – which has been the worst hit in Nigeria , while Ondo state recorded a total of 95 new cases today. Rivers state had 53 positive cases recorded, and 43 samples came back positive in Abia State.

In total, 23 states and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, recorded new cases, while no new state has recorded any cases in the last 24 hours. All he states in he coune have recorded cases of covid-19 since the breakout.

The NCDC posted the following update on its website:

On the 16th of July 2020, 595 new confirmed cases and 9 deaths were recorded in Nigeria

Till date, 34854 cases have been confirmed, 14292 cases have been discharged and 769 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

The 595 new cases are reported from 24 states- Lagos (156), Ondo (95), Rivers (53), Abia (43), Oyo (38), Enugu (29), Edo (24), FCT(23), Kaduna (20), Akwa Ibom (17), Anambra (17), Osun (17), Ogun (14), Kano (13), Imo (11), Delta (6), Ekiti (5), Gombe (4), Plateau (4), Cross River (2), Adamawa (1), Bauchi (1), Jigawa (1), Yobe (1).

This comes amidst he controversy surrounding the Federal Government’s decision to reverse it’s directive on the resumption of schools nationwide.
